Description

The McDonnell-Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is an American carrier-based attack aircraft, with its prototype first flying in 1954. During prototype testing in 1954, it set a speed record for level flight in its class of aircraft. The A-4 is a single-engine aircraft with a low-wing delta wing configuration, known during its service for its great durability and resistance to damage, earning high regard from pilots.

Various versions of the A-4 Skyhawk participated in the Vietnam War, Middle Eastern conflicts (1967 and 1973), and the Falklands War (1982). They played a decisive role in the 1967 war, serving in the Israeli Air Force.

Production ended in 1979, with approximately 2,900 combat versions and around 600 training versions produced. Over its service life, many versions were developed, including the A-4A (the first production version), A-4F (with improved electronics), and A-4G (training version).
