Carl Berger served in Europe in 1944-45 with U.S. combat engineers. He has been a journalist in Iowa, Army historian in Japan, and Navy historical writter in Washington D.C. He is the author of The Korea Knot and Broadsides and Bayonets. He is now with the Office of Air Force History.
