THIS is an unoffocial publication, a handbook detailing the surface characteristics of Air Force and Army aircraft.
( … ) USAF Aircraft is based on official publications, primarily the ’ Releasable Information on U.S. Air Force Aircraft Handbook ’ issued by the Air Force Branch, Office of Security Review ; and other unclassified Air Force documents which were available prior to March 29th, 1955 when a Department of Defense Directive tightened already - rigid security regulations. Later data and notes were culled from unclassified orders, regulations and reports that remained available ; from Congressional budget hearings, and from matter appearing in other public documents and the aeronautical press.
The book's rudimentary facts will not startle Soviet intelligence. American readers interested in USAF affairs and activities beyond ’ Aircraft ’ are referred to the Air Force Association and their monthly ’ Air Force ’ magazine. ( ... )

James Charles Fahey ( 1903 - 1974 ) was an American author best remembered as the original compiler and publisher of the popular American reference The Ships and Aircraft of the United States Fleet. He published a companion 64 - page reference booklet for one dollar in 1946 entitled U.S. Army Aircraft ( Heavier than Air ) 1908 - 1946, and subsequently, documented early Cold War developments in U.S.A.F. and United States Army Aircraft : 1947 - 1956.
