Description

Aviation book
This book presents, for the first time, a detailed and illustrated history of all aircraft types operated by the United States Navy during the 1920's and 1930's. Squadron assignment tables, aircraft characteristics and performance data, production and markings details and captioned photographs combine to produce this comprehensive reference. To the photo collector it is like a giant stamp catalog - full of priceless oddities and curios, as well as the commonplace ; to the professional historian the facts and tables speak for themselves without the additional value of photos ; to the serious scale model builder it is a profuse source of authentic material on markings and color ; to the youth and layman of today it is a fascinating look into the past, an organized tour of naval aircraft development.

William T. Larkins ( March 1922 ) was born in Bakersfield ( California, United States ). He has been an aviation photographer and writer since his first photograph was published in 1936. A unique combination of a degree in English and Philosophy from the University of San Francisco, and a life - long interest in aviation, has resulted in several hundred published photos or articles in aviation magazines and books.
After graduation from the A.A.F. Photography School in 1943 he spent three years in aircraft recognition training, including service in H.Q. A.A.F. Subsequent military service was spent in the Intelligence section of the Air Force Reserve and as a Photographic Officer in the Air National Guard. He is, today, recognized as one of the nation's leading authorities on aircraft history. Author of the books The Ford Story ; A Pictorial History of the Ford Tri - Motor 1927 - 1957 and U.S. Marine Corps Aircraft 1914 - 1959, and founding editor of the American Aviation Historical Society Journal, he is well known for his dedication to detailed historical research.
