Welcome to this, the second in our Modellers Datafile series. This series of books has been conceived from the outset with the static scale model maker in mind, although I am sure that they will prove as popular with aviation enthusiasts and historians. In the past there have been a number of titles which looked at a specific subject, but they only offered historical and technical information. The Modellers Datafile series has been created to offer the modeller information which will be of use when building the type. Each title will contain a short historical text describing the design's evolution, technical data, scale plans, colour interior drawings, black and white sketches, details of how to make all versions in all scales, a list of all known kits of the type, accessories and decals for the type and finally a comprehensive bibliography to help the reader decide on other suitable titles should he wish to do further research.
The choice for this second title is, once again, a purely personal one. My great admiration of the Hurricane is due, I think, to that fact that it does not have the glamour of its opposite number in the RAF, the Supermarine Spitfire. As a strong and stable gun platform the Hurricane could not be surpassed and the type was used in greater number than the Spitfire at the beginning of the war. For this reason, coupled with the obvious strength and purposeful nature of the design, it makes the type irresistible to an ugly old work horse like me!
