Description

Inspired by the Royal Navy's Northrop Shelduck targets and the Army's range of surveillance drones, Sitting Ducks & Peeping Toms may well be a play on words but this book serves to serious, chronicle the untold story of Britain's unmanned aircraft operations.

It is a story that unfolds at RAE Farnborough with early experiments during the First World War. Through the RAE LARYNX, the de Havilland Queen Bee unmanned target, meteor jets in the 1960s and the current range of modern UAVs, this book relates in astonishing detail the operations and histories of several thousand unmanned aircraft so far operated by, or on behalf of, the British military.

Some target aircraft survived amazing escapes and flew many missions; others had a flying life measurable only in seconds. But the growing presence of UAVs as part of Britain's defence force is proof positive that future conflicts will increasingly rely upon the use of unmanned aircraft in a variety of specialist roles.

Sitting Ducks & Peeping Toms is rich in hitherto unpublished facts and illustrations and sets the backdrop for modern technological developments in aviation warfare.
