Description

Aviation book
THIS, THE FIRST CANADIAN book on aviation art, marks the entry of Canada's Wings into a new and exciting field of aviation publishing. This book is perhaps unique of its type in that the artist supplied not only the artwork, but the next as well. The narrative provides a fascinating look at one artist's background, technique, and philosophy in a humourous and articulate manner. The combination of superb art and stimulating text has proven irresistable to us, as we hope it will to all of you, whether or not you are already familiar with the paintings of Don Connolly, one of Canada's most outstanding artists.

Don Connolly ( 1931 ) was born in Kingston ( Ontario, Canada ). Entering the R.C.A.F. in 1950, he accumulated 4.000 flying hours as a navigator, including a tour at the U.S.A.F. Air Academy. Following this he became actively involved in research and systems analysis work with the Defence Research Board and at Air Force Headquarters. In 1966, Don Connolly resigned his commission to enter the world of small business. Together with another ex - Air force colleague he founded a retail store which in time grew into a string of five stores and a picture framing factory. In 1978, he left this operation to strike out on his own as a freelance artist. He has now been painting as a professional for 25 years, and numbers his output of original ( aviation ) works as being ’ well over 2000 ’. Commissions are a specialty, and now consume most of his time at the easel, although his works can still be found on display at several galleries.
