Description

Second edition of the STRATHALLAN AIRCRAFT COLLECTION aircraft guide details the flying machines belonging to this collection. Magister or de Havilland Tiger Moth, follow by advanced training on a Harvard. Thus, the Harvard IIB G-AZBN, and its American equivalent, the AT-6 joined the Collection, to provide training and familiarization for flying the Hurricane or Spitfire.

Among the memorable arrivals at Strathallan are five Avro X1Xs ( Ansons ), which landed early in 1973. Later in that year, the Lockheed Hudson was flown from Australia. However, the most significant landing was the arrival of the Collection's Lancaster, on 12th. June 1975, This Canadian built Lancaster was flown from Edmonton on its third trans Atlantic flight by a crew from British Caledonian Airways, all of whom had previous 'Lancaster' experience.

(...) In May 1976 the Shackleton arrived by air from Farnborough, and in June, the Percival Provost, Miles M-18, and Miles Monarch all flew to Strathallan on the same day. What of the future? At the time of writing (May 1977) it appears that our Tiger Moth, G-ANFV will be sold, to make way for the Leopard Moth, G-AIYS.

The " Stop Press " information is that we have aquired a Fairey Swordfish in the US. ( The traffic in old aeroplanes is not always one way! ) However, it is not expected to arrive at Strathallan until the autumn.
