Description

The Mikoyan OKB began work on a fourth-generation fighter in 1970. Designated MiG-29 at a very early stage, extensive flight testing was conducted by a trial fleet that explored every aspect of the aircraft. Yefim Gordon provides a detailed exploration of the evolution from the earliest design studies to the highly successful tactical fighter it is today. His in-depth analysis covers the aircraft's service career and combat operations, the superb display flying that never fails to thrill airshow audiences worldwide, the numerous upgrades, comparisons with other fourth-generation fighters, and its service with around thirty air forces, from Peru to Poland, and Korea to Kazakhstan.

This definitive work on one of the late twentieth century's most successful programs includes an enormous amount of new information, a listing of known production models, and a magnificent collection of around 900 previously unpublished photographs, predominantly in color, along with line drawings and 100 color artworks.
