METEOR Gloster's First Jet Fighter

The Gloster Meteor was conceived and born when the Royal Air Force was doing daily battle with the Luftwaffe, and went into squadron service just before the end of the war, but just a little too late to make any firm impression. However, the well-loved 'Meatbox' went on through many years of development to fulfil a wide variety of roles, and to enjoy a long service both at home and in many other countries around the world.

The main objective of this book is to fill a long vacant gap in aviation literature by presenting an 'in-service' history of the Meteor, though not forgetting its development and other aspects. Years of searching by the author have produced a remarkable collection of previously unpublished photographs which will most certainly be savoured by Meteor buffs and modellers, studiously reflecting all aspects of service with very many British military units, overseas service, and the widest diversity of markings and colour schemes. All this is enhanced by eighteen pages of Keith Woodcock's meticulous plan and side view drawings and sketches, and cockpit interiors. Extensive appendices give individual aircraft histories; all RAF units to use the type; foreign production and use. There are over 250 photographs, including eleven in colour.
