PREFAZIONE ALLA 2ª EDIZIONE

La presente edizione in quattro lingue del volume : " I primi voli di guerra nel mondo " - edita nella ricorrenza del cinquantesimo anniversario della partecipazione di Reparti aerei alla campagna di Libia - e innanzi tutto un ulteriore, doveroso omaggio dell'Aeronautica Militare all'opera insigne svolta, in pace e in guerra, dai Pionieri Aviatori che con il loro valore e con la loro bravura costituirono la premessa indispensabile al sorgere dell'Arma nuova.

Ai Veterani di quel primo cimento bellico delle Ali d'Italia, alla memoria dei Caduti e degli Scomparsi, è perciò dedicato questo volume.

Esso infatti - oltre la sua specifica finalità di documentare fedelmente un'importante pagina della nostra storia - si propone soprattuto lo scopo ideale di ricordare e celebrare l'intrepido comportamento dei primi Aviatori di fronte ad una situazione nuova, piena di incognite, affrontata con l'eroismo e la perizia impareggiabili che divennero tradizione fondamentale della Aeronautica italiana.

PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION

The present edition of the volume " The Origin of Air Warfare " in four languages, published fifty years after the participation of Italy's air units in the Libyan campaign, is first of all a further, fitting tribute of the Air Force to the outstanding task carried out in time of peace and of war by the pioneer aviators. Their valour and skill were the indispensable prelude to the birth of the new armed Force.

This volume is therefore dedicated to the veterans of that first wartime test for Italian wings and to the memory of the dead and missing. In fact - besides its specific purpose of faithfully documenting an important chapter of our history - the volume primarily has the ideal aim of recalling and exalting the fearless bearing of the first aviators in face of a completely new situation, full of unknown hazards, which they met with the heroism and incomparable skill that became a fundamental tradition of the Italian Air Force.
