Description
In 1940, Europe, and indeed the world, faced the prospect of Nazi domination. In July, Germany began a determined attempt to seize air superiority over England as a prelude to seaborne invasion. Britain was alone, RAF Fighter Command outnumbered. In what was a classic 'David & Goliath' scenario, the stakes that summer were infinite.
Against all odds, Fighter Command saw off the German daylight bomber offensive, and by maintaining aerial superiority thwarted Hitler's invasion plans. It was Germany's first reverse of the war, without which there would have been no other Allied victories.
Volume IV of this successful series provides us with unique windows, largely using previously unpublished photographs collected from the Few themselves, through which we can still glimpse that fateful summer of 1940.
