Description

Ever since men first went to war in airplanes, they have decorated their aircraft with their own highly unique art form. Aircraft Nose Art surveys the 80-year history of this unofficial artwork, from World War I to the Gulf War.

The author, himself once a combat pilot, examines the origins of this art, how it has developed over time, and how it boosts the morale of those facing the daily stress of battle. The superb illustrations survey nose art's many themes, from fierce animals to cartoon characters, from female caricatures to complex science fiction scenes.

This entertaining story of nose art, with over 250 fascinating photographs, is a must for the serious enthusiast as well as the general reader on military aviation.
